Collective Nostalgia, is an exploration of memory, identity and the emotional landscapes that reimagine home as more than just a physical space, but rather a place of emotional and nostalgic ties. Nostalgia was a term proposed by Johannes Hofer, a swiss medical student, in 1688. It was defined as “A state of moral pain associated with the forced separation from family and social environment.” However, through the narrative in this film I hope to express nostalgia as a moment of binding rather than separation. A family sitting together, flipping through albums and telling stories prompts a moment of collective nostalgia as everyone’s individual memories fade in and out as various stories are told.
